1 - New Specs

Recently, some changes took place at Specs. The last three years have been very difficult for us, to the extent that SPECS and BioSPECS BV was pronounced bankrupt last January.

Johan Tijhuis (CEO) and Arie Speksnijder (CFO) started a new company 'Compound Handling BV', and could take over all activities and contracts from SPECS and BioSPECS BV, as well as the brand name 'Specs'. Since our Compound Handling projects are really boosting in 2005, this specific Specs service definitely deserves this special status! Other Products & Services (Screening Compounds, Building Blocks, Cheminformatics, Organic Synthesis, ...) remain available. Specs still stands for quality, reliability and flexibility.

Now that we are a financially healthy company, we are looking into the future with great confidence. With these changes the Specs staff has been adjusted accordingly. Therefore another person might be taking care of your business nowadays. Finally, we are planning to relocate soon to a more suitable office space. We will keep you posted in the next Specs.net mailing.

Specs definitely wants to remain your partner in the Drug Discovery process. We look forward to hear from you and do great projects together

2 - Compound Handling projects

Over the years our logistics department gained a lot of experience in handling compounds from our producers, and providing screening compounds to our customers in various formats. This experience is now offered as a service to our customers.

Our Compound Handling services include all necessary actions to transfer your (historical) library of screening compounds into an organized collection with uniformity in vial type, labels, barcodes and details concerning tare weights and contents of the vials. For the plating, research samples are weighed into new uniquely barcoded vials and the compounds will be dissolved and plated in either 96-well or 384-well plates (depending on customer specifications). Duplicate plates can be created with the same high degree of accuracy.

The success of our reformatting projects resulted in the start up of the Specs compound handling facility in Maryland, USA. The European projects are still carried out at the Specs facility in The Netherlands. Furthermore, Specs can also setup and perform compound handling projects at the customer's site. Feel free to ask for more information via info@specs.net

3 - New website

Did you already take a look at the new www.specs.net? The entire web site has been restyled, and we hope it guides you more easily through our products and services.

More and more customers use our on-line catalogue Specs.net to search and order their compounds. Consequently, the login window to access our secured web site got a more prominent position on the Specs site. Register free of charge, take a Specs.net tour, and find out how easy it works. Ordering on-line is not only very convenient, but the administration costs are lower as well. If you have a question regarding the Specs.net on-line ordering tool, you can contact the Specs.net helpdesk via support@specs.net.

4 - Everything you always wanted to know about - resupply at Specs!

Specs retains a small amount of every compound in an archive stock for resupply. This archive stock is only available to customers who have purchased the compound before. Of course there are limits to the archive stock as well. Resupply orders are processed following the 'first come first served' procedure. In most cases we can provide you the compound from our stock, the resupply rate at Specs is over 90%.

Nevertheless, if a compound is depleted from the archive stock, the resupply request is transmitted to the original producer. If this request is unsuccessful as well, the compound can be synthesized at the Specs Research Laboratory either from synthetic preparative methods provided by the original chemist or from literature references. Upon request, a pricing scheme including delivery time can be composed.

All of these factors make Specs the leader in supplying high-quality, structurally diverse compounds to the pharmaceutical and biotech companies around the world.
