4 - Specs on tour
5 - Latest compound releases
On October 2nd, 2013 a kick-off meeting was held by the Knowledge Centre for Plant Metabolites (Kenniscentrum Plantenstoffen) in the Dutch town of Monster. During this meeting, the idea of a plant extract library was launched to unlock bio-active compounds from agricultural and horticultural crops. Dutch plant breeders, being the world leaders in the export of bulbs, plants, roots, cut flowers and trees, will supply the necessary plant material for this library, after which they will be processed into extracts, thus bridging the gap between commercial horticulture and high-end markets like the pharmaceutical, cosmetic and (agro)chemical industry.
Specs, with over a quarter of a century of experience in processing and handling chemical compounds for the life sciences industry, will coordinate the entire logistics chain in this process from storage of the extracts to plating, handling and distribution, thus taking up a key position in the newly founded consortium. If you have any questions regarding this plant extract library, please feel free to contact us at email@example.com. More information on the Extract Library project can be found here and on the website of plantenstoffen.nl (in Dutch).
For more than 25 years, Specs has been providing chemical compounds to pharmaceutical and biotechnology community for drug discovery. To maximize chemical and geographical diversity, all of our compounds are acquired from academic groups and research institutes worldwide.
Our colleagues George Choy and Ye Huijuan are thrilled to have participated in the 24th International Society of Heterocyclic Chemistry (ISHC) congress last September in Shanghai, China. This was a perfect venue to strengthen existing relations and to meet new scientists eager to provide Specs with new and fascinating structures from their research projects and seek out new business opportunities. Our colleagues also took time to visit a number of promising supplier labs in Hangzhou and Beijing. Specs’ ongoing collaboration with local Asian chemists ensures that the Specs compound repository is continuously diversifying. We invite you to check out the latest additions to our stock (chapter 5 of this newsletter below).
If you are interested, our dedicated Business Development team can help you to select a set of diverse compounds based on scaffolds, descriptors, fingerprints and even geographical diversity. We are looking forward to meeting you during upcoming events. If you have any questions regarding our services or if you would like to know where you can meet with our representatives, feel free to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or read chapter 4 of this newsletter below.
3 – Outsourcing your compound synthesis to the ‘Specs Research Laboratory’
The Specs Research Laboratory (SRL) is a reliable partner for outsourcing a wide variety of chemistry services to the life sciences industry. At SRL we are able to perform single compound synthesis and (parallel) synthesis of small focused libraries for various stages of hit-to-lead discovery and optimization. Over the years our chemists have successfully executed a large number of projects for several of the Top 10 Pharma companies and continue to do so today.
Synthesis of well-documented literature compounds as well as compounds developed in your own research facility can be quoted on a No-Cure-No-Pay basis. Contract research projects can run under monthly or annual FTE-contracts. A construction in which our already attractive FTE-rate is split in a monthly fee and a success fee upon delivery is also possible. All compounds are analyzed by LCMS and 1H-NMR to meet your quality standards and customized sample delivery (vials, plates, tubes or combinations thereof) complements our services as if SRL is an integral part of your own business.
If you have any questions regarding the services of the Specs Research Laboratory, please feel free to contact us at email@example.com. All your questions and inquiries will be treated with the highest discretion.

If you don’t have a personal account yet, you can fill in the registration form and within 24 hours you will receive your personal login data.
The November 2013 Specs Compound Library release includes:
206,707 entries (>10 mg)
10,000 pre-plated compounds
480 pre-plated compounds
It is also possible to download these compound libraries or the latest additions to the screening compounds collection from Specs.net after logon. Please note that from the Screening Compounds, Building Blocks and Natural Products, the November 2013 libraries will be replaced by the December 2013 libraries at the beginning of next month and the first 3 download links above will therefore become obsolete. Please use the left-hand upload/download menu to find the most up to date links.
Upon request a CD-ROM version of Specs’ compound library releases can be send to you free of charge. This CD-ROM is released once every 6 months. In order to receive these CD-ROM releases, please request your subscription here or contact our sales department at email@example.com and refer to our CD-ROM releases.
